One figure carries a walking stick; the other holds a cane. The drawing is signed and dated Phil May 95 at the lower right.

Phil May (British, 1864–1903) was a draughtsman and illustrator associated with late 19th-century British periodicals. He contributed to The St Stephen’s Review, The Graphic, and later to Punch, becoming known for his economical line and work in black-and-white illustration. May spent part of his career in Australia, where he worked for The Bulletin before returning to London in the early 1890s. His drawings were reproduced widely in magazines, books, and annuals throughout the 1890s and early 1900s.
