About

A pair of Sulawesi (Toraja) decorative panels on later metal stands, a beautiful example of the rich artistic traditions of the Toraja people of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. These panels feature pa'ssura geometric patterns and figures of roosters (linked to bulangan londong – cockfighting, an important ritual practice) carved and painted in distinctive red, black, yellow, and white color scheme. Such panels, and other wooden elements created in the same manner are traditionally found on Tongkonan—the iconic ancestral houses of the Toraja.
