Pen and ink drawing by David Ghilchik, titled “Manners and Modes: The Rendezvous (The Cloche Hat Period).” The composition shows a crowded street scene with figures wearing cloche hats gathered near the entrance of a building. Additional smaller studies of figures appear in the lower section of the sheet, depicting gestures and interactions. The work is signed D. L. Ghilchik at the centre right. Published in Punch, 13 February 1924, p. 169.

David Louis Ghilchik (British, 1892–1972) was an illustrator and cartoonist who contributed to Punch magazine and other British periodicals during the early to mid-20th century. He trained at Manchester School of Art and exhibited with the Royal Academy and in various group shows. Ghilchik worked across editorial illustration, book illustration, and commercial graphic projects, producing social and urban observations for magazines throughout the 1920s and 1930s.
