About

Pair of engraved glass decanters of faceted form with a silver mounted neck and stopper. The glass bodies are deeply engraved with symmetrical floral and foliate motifs arranged within shaped panels. The stoppers are similarly engraved and fitted with silver collars, stamped "ALTENLOH, Bruxelles 950 M" along with an emblem. The decanters are preserved in great antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use.

Altenloh was a Brussels silversmith and luxury retailer active in the late 19th and early 20th century, with premises at Place Royale near the Royal Palace. The firm supplied the Belgian Royal Court and catered to an aristocratic and international clientele.

The mark ALTENLOH / BRUXELLES / 950 M, often accompanied by an emblem featuring two feathers and a star, denotes Belgian silver of high purity (950 standard). Altenloh produced and retailed silverware as well as mounted objects, handled its own production as well as foreign silverware and  jewelry such as Lalique, WMF, and Asprey.
