About

A figurative drawing by French artist Raymond Jean Legueult (1898-1971), depicting a reclining woman seated on a patterned sofa or chaise longue. Created in graphite on paper, the composition is built through loose, expressive lines and areas of denser shading. Signed "Legueult" and dated 66 at the lower right. Mounted in original giltwood frameframe.

Raymond Jean Legueult (1898–1971) was a French painter and draughtsman associated with the group later known as the Painters of Poetic Reality. He studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, where he formed a close friendship with Maurice Brianchon, and later travelled to Spain on a state scholarship, studying works by El Greco and Velazquez at the Prado.

Legueult exhibited widely in France and abroad and was appointed professor at the Ecole nationale superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1953. His work is represented in major public collections including the Centre Pompidou, the Musee d’Art Moderne de Paris, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
