About

A French Art Deco opalescent glass vase by Verlys, dating to the 1930s and designed by Pierre d'Avesn. The rounded body is moulded in high relief with stylised flowers, leaves, and berry clusters arranged across the surface, with softly opalescent highlights over a frosted ground.

Pierre d'Avesn was a French glass designer associated with several important Art Deco glass manufacturers, including Daum, Verlys, and later Cristallerie de Choisy-le-Roi. His designs are characterised by strongly modelled naturalistic decoration, particularly flowers, foliage, animals, and geometric reliefs adapted to pressed and moulded glass.

Verlys was a French decorative glass manufacturer active during the Art Deco period, closely associated with the glassworks of Holophane at Les Andelys in Normandy. From the 1920s through the 1930s, the company produced moulded and pressed glass vases, bowls, and decorative objects characterised by sculptural relief decoration, floral and naturalistic motifs, and opalescent finishes.
